Over 100 Students Entered the TBM Contests

Our judges were impressed by the quality of the submissions to the naming and art contests for our tunnel boring machine (TBM). Well done, students! Winners will be announced in December. We plan on an awards ceremony to acknowledge the winners once the pandemic has passed. Thank you for participating!

Over 100 Students Entered the TBM Contests
Our TBM Has Arrived

The TBM that will be used to build the Clearwater Project tunnel has arrived at the construction site in Carson. More than two football fields in length when fully assembled, the TBM was delivered in sections. Front sections of TBM are shown in photo below. Work on the access shaft will continue so that the TBM can be lowered to its starting depth and begin tunneling next spring.

Our TBM Has Arrived
For Us, 2020 Was the Year of Virtual Engagement

Community engagement has been a hallmark of the Clearwater Project. Despite the pandemic, we continued this tradition by giving virtual presentations to community groups and schools in the South Bay. Students have learned about wastewater treatment, water recycling and environmental stewardship. On January 30, 2021 at 9:30 am, we will provide a virtual construction update via Zoom that will be open to the public. Please contact Glenn Acosta at gacosta@lacsd.org if you'd like a presentation to your group or school.
